The story of one woman's desire to be a mother, and the terrible consequences of maternal indifference.
When a former child patient asks retired forensic psychiatrist Corine Alexander for help, she is grateful for the distraction from her own grief.
Hopeful that she will come to understand why the seemingly well-balanced teenager chose to attack her mother with a knife, Corine is disheartened by her patient's unwillingness to talk - the teenager's family seemingly united only by the secrets they keep.
To win her patient's trust, Corine is forced to face some secrets of her own ... secrets that are destroying both Corine, and her troubled patient.
